About the track

Chaos Karts in Manchester is not a conventional kart circuit and does not compare to one. There is no fixed layout, no lap record and no tarmac. Electric karts run inside a projection-mapped hall, with tracks and themed worlds beamed onto the floor and walls, and augmented reality weapons and power-ups you use against the other drivers.

The comparison everyone reaches for is Mario Kart, and the operator leans into it. Manchester Evening News described it as feeling like being inside the game. It is now run under the Arcade Arena brand by Little Lion Entertainment, alongside a PAC-MAN LIVE Experience on the same site, with a London venue opening in September 2026.

The eligibility rule is both age and height, not one or the other: drivers must be 8 or over and at least 1.4m tall. That 1.4m is high for an eight-year-old, so in practice most drivers are older. Anyone borderline may be asked to sit in a kart and prove they can work the pedals.

Expect to be on site 45 to 75 minutes, of which just over 20 is actually racing. Sessions hold up to ten players, and the operator suggests booking back-to-back if you want longer. Karts are single seat, so no passengers and no sharing.

One restriction worth knowing before you book: the projection and lighting effects mean it is not suitable for anyone with epilepsy. A weak back or neck condition also rules you out.

Questions people ask

How old do you have to be for Chaos Karts?

Eight or over, and at least 1.4m tall. Both apply, so a tall six-year-old still cannot drive and a short ten-year-old cannot either. Anyone close to the height minimum may be asked to demonstrate they can operate the kart before racing.

How long will I actually be racing?

Just over 20 minutes on track. Allow 45 to 75 minutes on site in total, covering check-in, pre-play activities, the briefing, racing, the debrief and scores.

How is this different from normal karting?

There is no fixed circuit. The tracks are projection-mapped onto the floor and walls, so you race through different themed worlds, and augmented reality gives you virtual weapons and power-ups to use against other drivers. It is closer to a video game than to lap-time racing.

Can I go if I have epilepsy?

No. The projection and lighting effects mean the operator does not allow it, for your own safety. A weak back or neck condition also rules you out, as does being unable to operate the pedals or steering.

Is there a weight limit?

No official limit, but you must fit comfortably and the seatbelt must fasten. The operator's rule of thumb is that if you can ride rollercoasters you will be fine.

Can two people share a kart?

No. The karts are single seat only, with no passenger option.

Can I bring my child if I do not want to race?

Yes, and under-18s must be accompanied by an adult. That adult does not have to play and can watch from the viewing platform.

Can I film or take photos?

Phones and cameras are welcome in the venue, but not on the track, because you need both hands on the wheel.

How many people race at once?

Up to ten per session. You can book back-to-back sessions for longer, and watch friends racing in the sessions either side of yours.

Is there anything else at the venue?

Yes, a PAC-MAN LIVE Experience runs on the same site, and multi-play tickets combine the two.
