About the track
Nottingham Raceway is a 550-metre outdoor kart track at Upper Broughton in Leicestershire, just off the A46 and around 25 minutes from both Nottingham and Leicester. The circuit is wide enough to overtake properly, which is the main thing separating it from the indoor tracks in either city.
Age limits split in a way that catches people out. Cadet karts take drivers from 8, provided they are 1.30m tall. The 270cc adult karts are 14 and over and need 5ft 2in — so a tall twelve-year-old still cannot drive them. Maximum weight is 20 stone.
It runs seven days a week, closing only for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, with the track open from 10am. The karts stay on slick tyres all year, so wet sessions are properly slippery and wet weather suits are handed out. Free parking, heated spectator buildings and a coffee shop on site.

How young can children drive?
Eight, in the cadet karts, provided they are at least 1.30m tall. The 270cc adult karts are 14 and over with a minimum height of 5ft 2in. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
How big is the circuit?
About 550 metres, outdoors, with enough room to overtake cleanly rather than just following the kart in front.
What happens if it rains?
You race anyway, and get wet. The karts run slick tyres regardless of conditions, so it becomes very slippery. Wet weather suits are provided.
How many people do we need for an event?
Ten drivers for an exclusive event where the track is yours alone. Open events take any number, and you race alongside other groups.
How long will it take?
A practice session can be as short as 15 minutes. A sprint race for 20 drivers runs about two hours, and larger groups take roughly an hour per ten drivers.
What should I wear?
Casual clothes and trainers. Helmet, gloves and race suit are provided. A balaclava is compulsory — bring your own or buy one at reception for £2.
Can I bring my own helmet?
Yes, as long as it is full face. Motocross helmets need goggles and a chin piece. Your own race suit, gloves and boots are welcome too.
Can spectators watch?
Yes. There are paddock areas overlooking the track, heated spectator buildings and drinks machines.
What is the deposit and cancellation policy?
A non-refundable £10 per person deposit secures a group booking, and 48 hours' notice is needed to move a slot. Bookings can be transferred to other drivers but not refunded, and the organiser is liable for the full number booked even if fewer turn up.
Do I need to book?
Not strictly for practice sessions, but the operator strongly advises it to guarantee a slot.
How far is it from Nottingham or Leicester?
About 25 minutes from either, just off the A46.
