About the track

Revolution Karting sits in the arches on Burdett Road at Mile End, and is London's most central outdoor kart track. Genuine tarmac, 450 metres, open all year in all but extreme weather, and running for over twenty years.

The eligibility rule is unlike anywhere else we list. There is no minimum age at all. The only requirement is height: you must be 5ft 1in, or 1.55m. In practice that rules out most children under about twelve, but a small adult is affected exactly the same way, and a tall ten-year-old can drive.

The entry format is Open Racing at £29.50, which is 16 laps split into two timed eight-lap races, so roughly 7.2 kilometres of driving. Private events run from £65 for a Mini Grand Prix or Mini Endurance with an hour of exclusive track hire, up to £75 for the full versions with an hour and a half. Those four are 18 and over. The Fun Hour at £450 is aimed at younger drivers and covers up to ten of them, which works out at £45 each.

Watch the checkout. A £3.50 booking, balaclava and gloves fee is added per person to every format except the Fun Hour, so a group of ten pays £35 on top of the headline price.

The karts are Bowman Storm EVs, electric rather than petrol, which the operator says deliver more torque as well as being cleaner. Getting there without a car is easy, which is rare for a kart circuit: Mile End on the Central line is a ten minute walk, Limehouse DLR seven, and three bus routes stop opposite.

In the rainOutdoor and all-weather, running in everything but extreme conditions. Bring a change of clothes in the wet, and showers are available for private events. The operator points out that Hamilton and Verstappen race in the rain, so you may as well.

How old do you have to be to race at Revolution Karting?

Racing continues in all but extreme weather. Bring a change of clothes, and showers are available for private events. The operator argues wet running takes more skill and is more of an endurance challenge, which is fair.

Can I book for a large group?

Yes. Groups up to 16 book online, and the sales team handles anything larger. Formats scale to 150 drivers, though the quoted track time assumes 16, so bigger groups need more.

What should I wear?

Flat-heeled shoes, plimsolls or trainers. Heels, open-toed shoes, sandals and flip-flops are refused. Trousers or shorts and a t-shirt in summer, extra layers in winter. Scarves and loose jackets must come off before you get in a kart.

Can we bring food?

Yes. There is a snack shop selling chocolate, crisps and soft drinks, plus a free filtered water fountain, and you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. Catering can be arranged for private events, or you can order delivery.
