Height matters more than age
This is the part that catches people out. Nearly every track sets a minimum height alongside the minimum age, and both have to be met. A child needs to reach the pedals with enough leg left to brake hard, and see over the wheel, and a kart has almost no adjustment. Among the tracks that take 17 year olds, the minimum runs from 100cm to 155cm. Measure your child before you book rather than after you arrive.

Before you book
- Measure them. Height rules out more children than age does.
- Check which circuit they would be on. Several venues run a separate junior track with its own limits.
- Ask whether juniors race separately from adults, or whether sessions are mixed.
- Budget for compulsory extras. Balaclavas and gloves are often required and rarely in the headline price.
- Allow more time than the session length. An hour on site for thirty minutes of driving is typical.
